Digital Fabrication in the Arts introduces students to the hardware, software, and basic concepts necessary to use digital fabrication equipment when making art. It includes two examples of 16-week course descriptions and over 50 assignments with prompts, required tools, and list of materials needed to make tools, patterns, armatures and more. Projects focus on the design thinking essential to make art while teaching the processes and procedures required to operate the four core pieces of digital fabrication equipment (3D printer, vinyl cutter, laser engraver, and CNC router).This text provides entry-level lessons on the basics of CAD/CAM technology and how to integrate digital fabrication hardware and software into the traditional studio arts - such as jewelry, ceramics, wood working, metal fabrication, printmaking, and sculpture. Each project blends a piece of digital fabrication equipment with a traditional art form. The projects are designed as an introduction into a traditional process and new technology.
