Spring, 1887-1898 Louis C. Tiffany (1848-1933) Gift of the estate of Alfreda Tiffany Michell Bingham Gregor (1875-1967), niece of the artist and model for the queen at age twelve. In the collection of tThe Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, Winter Park, FL. Louis Comfort Tiffany's early success was the kind young painters dream about, but very few experience. By the age of 30 Tiffany was recognized as one of America's most important painters, and by the age of 32 he was elected to full membership in the National Academy. Spring, a romantic allegory for which younger members of Tiffany's family were models, illustrates Tiffany's pride in his offspring as well as his longing to paint the figure in the Renaissance tradition. The composition has the flow and rhythm of a procession on a classic urn.
